In 1994, Animal Apawthecary, a company founded by world-renouned herbalist/author Greg Tilford and herbalist Mary Wulff, began formulating natural pet supplements for Merritt Naturals, a company founded by Frank and Joan Holden in New Jersey. Business took off for both companies, and in 2003, Merritt Naturals and Animals Apawthecary merged everything together into what is now Animal Essentials Inc.
