Born in Australia, Sophie Duncan was always around animals, whether it was dogs, horses or birds. Her journey in life took her from Australia, to Cambridge in the United Kingdom, to Los Angeles, and then on to Las Vegas.
Sophie started drawing after she moved to LA. She was inspired by her miniature dachshund, Charlotte, and started drawing dog portraits for friends, and taking commissions. It became her way of paying homage to the companionship that her four-legged friend provided her.
After moving to Las Vegas Sophie decided to enrol in some formal art classes, learned new techniques, and moved into Printmaking where she experimented with lithography, etching, intaglio type printmaking and relief printing. It was in this class that the idea for her business was born.
Sophie’s dogs, mini dachshund Charlotte, and Pit Bull Daisy had only been in her life for 5 years and 4 years respectively, but they provide endless joy to her life and inspiration for her art.
Sophie’s goal is not only to be able to donated through her creative endeavors but also to promote awareness amongst dog owners and future dog owners alike on the importance of training, spaying and neutering and adoption. Knowledge is a powerful tool, and even a little positive information, especially on the gentle nature of the Pit Bull, one of the most misunderstood breeds in today’s society, can go a long way.
From Sophie’s experience, I love dogs more and more. They can be our best friends, accompanying us and providing joy for us. Love them so much.
