Where Did You Find Your Dog?

I have two rescue pups. One came from a county shelter after being picked up as a stray and the other came from Kuwait via the International Humane Society. My boxer Madeline (now 8 years old), the stray, was very sweet from the start. She had clearly been around people yet was not well cared for due to her emaciated state and poor coat. Eleanor (now 4 years old), my desert dog, came after the shelter she lived in burned down. The survivors were flown to Washington DC by kind rescuers so they would have a second chance at happiness. She is now a 1.5 year ”survivor” of distemper and each day she is still with us is a special victory.

Tell Us About the Moment When You Knew that You Two Were Meant for Each Other.

With Madeline, I knew the minute I met her. She was so sweet and full of life even with her physical setbacks. I knew with love, attention and good nutrition that she would shine! We met Eleanor at an adoption event and the minute she saw Madeline she was smitten. They played and got along very well and I knew they would make great companions. I originally adopted her as a companion for Madeline but she has become an important companion for us all.

How Has Your Hero Changed Your Life?

Both my girls teach me patience and unconditional love. Miss Eleanor is a true survivor and through her challenges and health issues she has always remained the happiest, sweet dog. Madeline loves everyone so much; she has no prejudices and treats all she encounters equally. I try and learn from their acceptance and love and try to apply it to work and personal stresses as they arise.

About Project Blue Collar:
Project Blue Collar (PBC) is a global grassroots movement and passion brand dedicated to promoting dog adoption. PBC is striving to tell a different story about rescue dogs – not one of pity and sadness, but one that celebrates the joy and love that comes from welcoming a rescue dog into your family. Their goal is simple: To elevate the status of rescue dogs as prized pets and inspire more people to adopt.
PBC’s signature Support the Underdog® Blue Collar is the symbol of the movement. Taking the concept of the rubber cause wristband and making it into an accessory dog collar, this symbol gets conversations going and lets dogs be the marketers of the movement. The Support the Underdog® Blue Collar gives people a way to show their “rescue pride” and tell their dog’s story. Even dogs who weren’t adopted can join the movement to show their support for rescue dogs.
To date, PBC has “Blue Collared” dogs in 11 countries and in all 50 U.S. states. PBC donates a portion of their sales to rescue groups to support their lifesaving work. Visit www.projectbluecollar.com to learn more.
