Brownie – The Doberman Pinscher Pup who is losing his leg, but not his will to love and be loved

Brownie is an inspiration – Despite all that he’s been through, he continues to love and is looking to be loved.  Watch and read his story.

At just six months old, Brownie has been through more than his fair share of struggles. A few months ago, he was left at the shelter with a badly deformed leg. He has a number of battle scars, including a nasty tear through his ear. We don’t know what happened to Brownie, but we expect he was bred with the intent of being sold because his tail had been docked. Somewhere along the line he had a run in with another animal and suffered a broken leg along with other injuries. Sadly, his leg injury was never treated and the bone healed horribly wrong, which is how Brownie came to find his pure-bred-self left to perish in a shelter.

When I first met Brownie, I could have sworn that meeting would be our last. Having stayed far too long in the shelter, he acquired kennel cough that rapidly turned into pneumonia. I vividly recall looking at him as he had blood coming from his nose and asking “Is he going to make it?” and getting an unsure look from the rescue group that pulled Brownie – injuries and all – and spared his life. Today, I am his foster mom and tomorrow he will lose the damaged leg. We have had Brownie with us for four days now and he is an amazingly gentle, smart boy. It’s painful to think about what he will endure tomorrow. But today, we will go to the park and run and play. Tomorrow the long journey to his recovery and forever family will begin. I will chronicle all of this for others – his is a lesson of survival and strength. Against all odds Brownie has overcome a series of hurdles – a vicious attack, illness and now loss of his leg. He is here for a reason.

  1. You are good people, Les! What a sweetie Brownie is – you are lucky to have found each other. Noelle’s dog had a leg removed when he was a few months old and he hardly noticed after a couple of weeks. Looking forward to following Brownie’s progress. Do you think he’d like chickens? 😉

  2. Thank you so much for keeping us posted, and for caring for this poor, sad, sweet, loving Brownie! There will be a special place in Heaven for you, I am certain!! XO!
